Early in 2008, the Utah State Legislature funded the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Elementary Arts Learning Program, a groundbreaking public/ private arts education initiative that allocates funds to hire school-dedicated arts specialists to work side-by-side with teachers in the classroom, promotes partnerships with universities that offer pre-service and professional development training, and provides instruments and arts materials. A portion of the funding will also be used in tracking and evaluating student progress in order to quantify results.

“Dance is movement, it is peaceful. When I first started dance
class, I felt happy and scared at the same time. Now, I feel just
right! One thing I like about dance class is our dance specialist.
I think dance helps calm me down and helps me learn things that are
hard.” - Fifth grade boy, Davis County |
